Axera Design system

aiming to enhance consistency, efficiency, and scalability across our product

Design system Implementation

As a UX Designer, I led the successful implementation of a comprehensive design system for Axera, aimed at improving design consistency, development efficiency, and overall user experience across the product ecosystem. Below is an overview of my approach and the outcomes:

Project Goals:

The project’s primary goal was to create a unified design system that would:

  • Ensure consistency across various platforms and devices.
  • Streamline the collaboration between design and development teams.
  • Accelerate the design and development process by using reusable components.

Brief

Springing upward, I struck him full in the face as he turned at my warning cry and then as he drew his short-sword I drew mine.

1. Research and Auditing: I began by conducting a thorough audit of existing UI components, design patterns, and style guides. This helped identify inconsistencies and areas where we could improve alignment. I also gathered insights from key stakeholders and users to understand their pain points and expectations, which shaped the direction of the design system.

2. Component Creation: I designed a comprehensive library of reusable UI components, each with clear guidelines for usage. The components included elements such as buttons, form fields, icons, grids, and layouts. These were all based on a modular approach, allowing flexibility while maintaining brand consistency.

3.Visual Guidelines & Cross-team Collaboration:I developed a detailed style guide outlining typography, color palettes, spacing, and interaction patterns.I worked closely with developers to ensure the design system was practical and implementable within our codebase.

4. Testing and Iteration: To validate the design system, I conducted usability testing and gathered feedback from internal teams and real users. This process allowed me to identify areas for refinement and improve component usability before rolling out the system at scale.Based on the insights, I made iterative improvements to refine the system.

Results

  • Consistency: The design system provided a unified look and feel, reducing discrepancies across different product features and platforms.
  • Efficiency: The use of reusable components and standardized patterns significantly sped up the design and development process.
  • Scalability: The modular nature of the design system allowed for easy updates, making it adaptable as the product evolved.
  • Collaboration: Designers and developers worked more seamlessly, thanks to the shared design language and well-documented guidelines.

Conclusion:

Implementing this design system not only improved the overall user experience and brand consistency but also optimized team workflows, enabling us to scale the product more effectively. The system continues to serve as a foundation for ongoing improvements and product innovation.
